Update 2.12 for the Treo 680

Download & Install: IT and Enterprise

This method requires an SD or MMC expansion card.

Do not use a miniSD or microSD expansion card and adapter. Palm has identified that the most reliable method is to use a full-sized SD card between 32MB and 2GB. Using a miniSD or microSD expansion card with an adapter can cause issues with the update.

Make sure end-users back up their information with a full HotSync operation before updating. This update will erase all data on users' devices. Backed-up data can be restored through a HotSync operation.

The smartphone must be plugged into its AC charger throughout the process.

  1. Download: Treo680_2_12_ROW_SDupdater.zip (22.8MB zip file)
  2. Decompress the file. It will be unzipped to a PALM folder containing several individual files.

Insert the expansion card into the card reader, and format the expansion card. It needs to be blank in order to proceed.
  3. On the desktop PC with the expansion card still connected, copy the PALM folder in its entirety into the root directory (top level, no subfolders) of the expansion card.
  4. Begin with the first smartphone to be updated: connect the device to its AC charger. It must remain connected throughout the update.

Insert the expansion card into the smartphone.

The update will begin immediately. You will be reminded that the updater will erase all data.

The Treo smartphone will soft reset, the Palm logo will appear onscreen, the update will begin.
  5. The updater may take a moment to begin. Do not disconnect the smartphone from the charger during the update process.

The update will take 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. This is the final screen of the update process. Ensure the charger is still plugged into your Treo 680.

Your Treo 680will then reset multiple times, and the Palm logo will appear onscreen. Allow the unit to reset until the language selection screen ("Press Center button for English) appears. Press Center to select English.

The smartphone will then reset again, and the Palm logo will appear. Then you'll see "Use stylus to tap center of target". Go through this process to calibrate the touchscreen.
  7. Your Treo 680 is now updated.

Repeat steps 4-6 with each Treo 680 smartphone you wish to update.

End-users will need to perform a HotSync operation with their desktop PC to restore the data they backed up at the beginning.
