Your webOS device syncs with popular web accounts like Google and Yahoo!. These services offer convenient and full-featured Calendar and Contacts applications, as well as other goodies. When you move your info to one of these services, you get:

Over-the-air sync and backup¹, even when you're away from your computer.
A desktop view of your info that's available wherever you have an Internet connection.
Remote erase, which blanks out your personal information¹ if it is lost or stolen. Your info remains untouched in the web service, so it's easy to restore when you get your device back.
Ability to import and export info from the web service.
